LTE Submitted to the Register Guard by Tim Freeman, Douglas County Commissioner

I have known Sid Leiken for more than 20 years.  Sid grew up in Douglas County and his roots run deep in both Lane and Douglas County.   We have served together as elected officials in Associated Oregon Counties since I was elected to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners in 2014.

On October 1, 2015 Douglas County residents experienced a horrific tragedy when a lone gunman ended the lives of 9 people and wounded 8 others at Umpqua Community College.  Our community was rocked to the very core.  Immediately Commissioner Leiken reached out to us in Douglas County.  He was there to provide support, comfort, leadership and strength.  Sid did this totally behind the scenes.  He was not there to attract attention to himself but rather to provide support and care in one of the most difficult times in our community’s history.  Sid’s compassion was incredibly important for me personally at such a difficult time.

I share this story with you the citizens of Springfield and Lane County to provide some insight into your commissioner.  I proudly support Sid Leiken for the Springfield District 2 Board position and urge you to re-elect him as your commissioner.
