In the Community
The Association of Oregon Loggers met last weekend at their annual convention in Eugene. Sid had a chance to catch up with childhood friends while shaking hands and talking land policy at an evening reception. Sid was born in Roseburg, and his family owned and operated timber and land development companies. He understands the balance of resource management and longterm sustainable harvesting.
Fern Ridge Community Policing District
Community members from the area around Fern Ridge Reservoir are banding together to do something about crime in their communities. The group is proposing a local policing district, paid for through property taxes. The group had the opportunity to go before the Lane County Board of Commissioners last week, and Sid had the opportunity to talk about it on the radio last Wednesday morning.
Coming Up: First Debate!
Sid will be debating his primary opponent at the Western Liberty Network Conference! The conference is a great resource for anyone thinking about running for office, working on a campaign, or simply wanting to learn more about grassroots politics. Over lunch, watch the debate between two of the best Republican candidates for Oregon Secretary of State. Of course, pick up your Sid Leiken button and cheer Sid on during the debate! The conference and debate will be January 30th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Hillsboro. Tickets for the whole event (or a debate-only package) can be found on their website www.westernlibertynetwork.org.
Rest In Peace
This month we lost two legends! Glenn Frey from the Eagles and David Bowie touched our lives in so many ways. Sid reminisced, “I will remember both Glenn and Bowie as legends. Bowie’s innovative style, both visually and musically, was always on the cutting edge. Being a musician myself, I can only aspire to touch the greatness Glenn, Bowie, and all the other legends that have come before us embraced every time I take the stage!”
