Following Sid Around the State

Great news out of Lane County! Winnebago has announced plans to move into the former Country Coach Plant in Junction City. The company intends to hire about 200 people and provide wages better than the Lane County average in addition to offering benefits.

Leiken explained to KLCC, “When Lane County does provide incentive dollars like this it isn’t a check that we hand over to the company. It will always stay with that particular property. So, if for some reason, Winnebago chose to move in the future, that $100-thousand that we provide incentive for will stay with that facility at all times.”

Last week, the Lane County Board of Commissioners tackled the tricky subject of land use regulations and recreational marijuana growing operations. Sid and the board formally adopted land use legislation that will deal with siting recreational Marijuana growers. Sid explained, “It was a lengthy discussion, but I was pleased on where we landed.” The commissioners also decided to form a task force that will include individuals directly involved in the industry. This is new to Lane County and will allow the board to continue to listen and adapt our land use laws accordingly.

This month, Sid attended the 13th Oregon Leadership Summit in his official capacity of Lane County Commissioner. This conference is a collaborative effort, bringing business leaders and government officials together to develop policy that will support and sustain job growth and employment in Oregon. There was buzz at the conference regarding a possible transportation bill that would provide important maintenance for our roughly 400 bridges and roads in Lane County, ensuring our citizens can travel safely and quickly.
